Purpose
To investigate whether a diastolic blood pressure(BP) of < 80 mmHg can be obtained in previously treated patients with
hypertension through intensified antihypertensive treatment and to determine whether this can be achieved without increasing the
incidence or the severity of side effects to unacceptable levels
Secondary objective: to see whether this further reduction in BP would lead to a further reduction in hypertension-induced
morbidity and mortality
